Making bold, historic investments in housing to create a Massachusetts where all can thrive.

Bold Work for Meaningful Change

Massachusetts residents deserve to live in the community they love and call home. We owe it to young people starting out, seniors looking to downsize but stay in their community, and working people who are already stretching every dollar to create reasonably priced housing. The state needs more housing options, particularly for first-time homebuyers, seniors struggling to keep up with housing costs, and those who serve our communities, like teachers, nurses, first responders and firefighters. One Commonwealth is working to end the state's housing crisis through creative solutions, landmark investments and innovative partnerships to ensure the future of Massachusetts is affordable and remains home to so many.

Steady Progress / Meaningful Results

Speeding up the availability of public land for housing development.

Ensuring rural and small towns receive the assistance they need, like exclusive access to apply for the Housing Choice Grant Program and additional benefits.

Providing nonprofit developers and municipalities with funds to address disinvestment in residential neighborhoods by supporting the construction of substandard home and rental properties.

Legalizing accessory dwelling units (ADUs) in single-family zoning districts statewide and creating an ADU loan program.

Boosting our economy by ensuring local businesses grow here rather than in states where housing for their employees is more affordable.

Creating the Commercial Conversion Initiative to accelerate housing production by transforming vacant and underutilized commercial properties into new housing.

Expanding MassHousing’s homebuyer assistance program so more people can lower their upfront costs and become homeowners.
