Resources Created by the Affordable Homes Act

The Affordable Homes Act was passed by the Legislature and the Healey-Driscoll Administration in 2024. It created innovative programs and resources to support the creation and rehabilitation of housing across Massachusetts. We’re highlighting a few ways this law can be helpful to residents like you:

Healthy Homes Program

Provides grants and no- or low-interest loans of up to $50,000 per unit to property owners for repairs to address safety concerns and create a healthier environment for residents. Learn more about eligibility here.

Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs)

Allows accessory dwelling units (ADUs) of up to 900 square feet to be built on the same lot as another home in single-family zoning districts. ADUs can play a significant role in our housing crisis. Learn more about ADUs here.

Supports for Seasonal Communities

Recognizes Massachusetts communities that experience substantial variation in seasonal employment and creates distinctive tools to address their unique housing needs. There are several programs available to seasonal communities, including the Year-Round Housing Trust Fund, which allows for the creation and preservation of affordable and attainable housing for year-round residents. Learn more about the Seasonal Communities designation here.
